How it goes

Three steps, start to finish

  1. Describe the fault

Note the symptoms and any code on the display, and send a photo of the label on the side of the indoor unit if you can.

  2. Fault-finding visit

Wiring, sensors, drain and gas pressures are tested in turn until the cause shows, then explained in plain words.

  3. Fix or order

Common parts are fitted on the same visit. Anything else is ordered, and a second visit is set up once it arrives.

Questions

About repairs and fault finding

Why is my indoor unit dripping water?

Usually a blocked or sagging condensate drain, or a filter so dirty that the coil ices up and then thaws. Switch the unit off and keep water away from sockets until it is looked at.

Can I top up the gas myself?

No. In Great Britain only an engineer with an F-gas certificate may open the refrigerant circuit, and a unit that is short of gas has a leak that needs finding first.
